Why it’s so special to stay in a villa by the beach

Having the beach on your doorstep – being close to nature, soaking up the sun’s rays and having loads of fun without the hassle of travelling - is pretty special. Your schedule can be as active or as relaxed as you like, too. Imagine laying down your towel and feeling the sun’s warmth on your back all afternoon long. Windsurfing, body boarding and surfing are all up for grabs for you adventurous types, and being by the beach is also perfect for a family game of volleyball or to fascinate the kids with the wonders of rock pool hunting! For couples, there’s plenty of opportunity for romantic walks along beautiful coastlines and a chance to explore secluded bays. Stay as late as you like without the worry of a long walk back to your villa.

Take Villa Aqua, just 0.1km from the beach and 2km from the popular Paphos harbor in Cyprus. After a day in the picturesque blue waters, you can take advantage of the poolside terrace to dine alfresco as the sun sets. In Villa Florencia, in Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote, you can spend your evenings relaxing at beach bars against the superb backdrop of the volcanic landscape.

A beach in Cyprus

Cyprus

For something a little magical, the golden beaches, rugged coastlines and forest-clad mountains of Cyprus should do the trick. Once home to Aphrodite – the Greek goddess of love, beauty and pleasure – this truly is an otherworldly destination. Even while taking in some of the sites you don’t have to miss out on an all-important beach day; the historical city of Paphos has culture and architecture in abundance, plus it’s very own stretching sandy beach. Navigate the winding streets past vineyards and olive groves and spend a week or two in Coral Bay - dipping in shallow waters, experiencing the lively nightlife and sampling Greek Cypriot meze in Peyia (the portions are huge wherever you go!). Wildlife fanatics will enjoy the plentiful creatures: keep an eye out for owls at dusk, and sea turtles of the coast of Lara Bay.

A beach in Menorca

Menorca

If silver-sanded, gently curving bays with a family-friendly atmosphere sounds good to you, Menorca is probably the best spot in the Balearic Islands. There are beaches for everyone here: the sundrenched beaches with excellent surrounding facilities of Binibeca and Punta Prima can be enjoyed in the south, and if you prefer rugged views and horseshoe bays head north to Arenal de Son Saura beach or Arenal den Castell beach.

Coffee with brandy might be a little intense for your usual morning routine, but you should definitely sample just that (a ‘carajillo’) while in one of the beautiful restaurants surrounding Menorca’s bays. Take yourself even further out of your comfort zone and let your hair down with a fiesta – the giants, gin and dancing horses in Mahon is a must in September.
