Campos is a traditional Mallorcan village / town dating back to 1300 BC and was founded by King Jaume II on the site of former Roman settlements. Its a market town and centre of the south eastern dairy and agricultural economy of the island which is reflected in its twice weekly farmers markets and the vast expanses of flat, arable countryside dotted with the old windmills, both derelict and recently restored, that are so instantly recognisable by regular visitors to the island. Campos is also the gateway to the south east tourist resorts of Cala d'Or, Cala Santanyi and Colonia Sant Jordi where there is a daily ferry to the tiny island of Cabrera. There are some spectacular beaches just a short drive from Campos with long stretches of fine, golden sand, still far enough from the regular tourist spots to mean you can always find your own personal space. Es Trenc is probably the best regarded of these beaches and includes a stretch popular with nudists, so that personal space is very welcome! Other adjacent beaches include Ses Covetes, where there is a chiringuito and local bar and onwards to Sa Rapita with its own marina and several good restaurants renowned for seafood and paella. Just up the Eastern coast the lovely Parc Natural de Mondrago offers yet more beaches and the resort of Cala d'Or itself a more varied nightlife option.View villas in Campos
