If you get your thrills on the greens and fairways, you’ll be spoilt for choice in Florida. Tee off on one of Orlando’s 170 golf courses and score a holiday hole in one! Although watching a sunset on its shores might just be the icing on your Gulf Coast cake.

  • About Florida

While you could easily fill your Florida holiday with days at the theme parks, the Sunshine State offers so much more to see and do if you are keen to explore further. The Everglades are a natural wonder, an expansive green space of mangroves, grassland and swamps. Jump on a thrilling airboat ride across the swamp and keep your eyes peeled for the abundance of wildlife. Alligators, panthers and snakes all make this place their home.

If you feel like an experience that's out of this world, the Kennedy Space Centre is a Florida highlight. Famous for hosting the most important space shuttle launches in American history - this 140,000 acre site offers bus tours around the complex, as well as various exhibitions and displays in the Visitor Centre.

  • When to go to Florida

Spectacular sunshine in the hottest months of July and August draw visitors to Florida year after year. At this time the theme parks fill up with excited guests, and attractions are at their busiest. October offers a fantastic alternative time to visit if the heat of summer isn’t your style. The average daytime temperature is a surprisingly warm 29°C and the evenings a pleasant 18°C, so it’s still no problem to make the most of your private pool.

Even January and February – the coldest months Florida experiences – are warm enough to get out and explore what the state has to offer. One thing’s for sure, the fun of Florida and magic of Orlando are year-round!

  • Cultural Highlights

The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art is located in Orlando's historic Winter Park, and contains the world's largest collection of Tiffany glass - housed in a $5m Tiffany Wing. The museum also houses other art and architectural objects from his Long Island estate too.

The fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down in Florida. International Drive comes alive in the evenings, an 11.1 mile stretch through Orlando, packed full of restaurants, bars, shopping and entertainment options. Family-friendly and full of excitement, head to I-Drive in the early evening for dinner before catching a movie or a show. For the over 21s, the live music bars and nightclubs mean you can party into the early hours.

Open until midnight, Disney Springs is a truly amazing place, featuring 150 different venues to explore. Formerly Downtown Disney, this eclectic mix of unique boutiques, one-of-a-kind eateries and jaw-dropping entertainment will have you wondering where the day went.

  • Florida Holidays - Points of Interest

The magic of Walt Disney World Resort is an absolute must on your Florida holiday. If you're unsure where to start, we'd suggest Splash Mountain, located in Frontierland. It's sure to excite kids of all ages in the family. Of course once you have spent the day at Splash Mountain, Magic Kingdom and Epcot await!

Want a serious adrenaline rush? Head to Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay and ride SheiKra.

Some things just can't be explained... and Spook Hill, situated in Lake Wales, is one of them. Also known as a Magnetic Hill, this place defies gravity. Horses are known to struggle going downhill, and a car placed in neutral will roll uphill here. You have to see it to believe it.

Want to take advantage of some brands not native to the UK? Head for The Florida Mall (it's only 7 miles from the airport!). The Florida Mall is home to over 250 brands, including Saks Fifth Avenue. Macy's and Nordstrom, amongst others. Make sure you pick up some presents while you're there, your loved ones will thank you!
