An introduction to Pula

Pula is situated right at the southern tip of the peninsula and is the fine capital of Istria. With views of the Adriatic, Pula's unspoiled natural surroundings are magical. Known for its mild climate and tame, beautiful sea, Pula also has a long tradition of winemaking, fishing and shipbuilding. While strolling through the old town of Pula or Pola as the locals say, you will come across numerous monuments of Roman architecture: the Triumphal Arch of the Sergi from the 1st century B.C., Hercules’ Gate and Twin Gates, the Temple of Augustus, and one of its spectacles is the magnificent Amphitheatre in the town centre, great for lovers of culture.

    Cruises

    Excursions are available from the marina to the Brijuni Islands, a scatter of islands lcoated 6km from the Istrian coast.They are beautiful islands, with stunning sandy beaches and covered in pines and olive groves.

    Istralandia, located between Buje and Novigrad is an award-winning waterpark, with pools, flumes, entertainment and eateries. A fun day in the sunshine for all the family.

    The old town

    There are many corners to be explored in this large city. It's centre is mainly a business hub, but there are many shops cafes, bars and restaurants that surround the area. One of the most recognisable characteristics of this city is the great ampitheatre which lies just north of the centre.

    Museums

    The Archaeological Museum of Istria homes a collection of stone monuments and artefacts from prehistoric times, Roman era and wary Christian and Byzantine periods.

    National parks

    Guided tours to the Brijuni Islands National Park can be arranged from Fazana. You will be guided to the Tito Museum, former quarries, 1600 year-old olive tree, St Mary's Church from the 13th century, Safari Park, native Istrian flora and fauna and ancient Roman ruins.

    Architecture

    Reaching bck into Roman Times, the architechture in the city is heavily influenced by the Romans. There are several monuments dotted around - the Triumphal Arch of the Sergi, Hercules’ Gate and Twin Gates, the Temple of Augustus, Arena and Roman Theatre in the town centre.
