Upbeat nights in Santorini
Much of the nightlife is based around the islands capital – Fira - and the main beach resorts of Kamari and Perissa. Santorini has plenty of evening entertainment, with many traditional and cosmopolitan restaurants, bars and clubs being found along the beachfront; while a selection are tucked away in-between white washed houses and on privileged positions on the edge of the Caldera which take in the spectacular views and beautiful sunsets. A glass of local wine can be enjoyed in one of the quaint village squares or the up market lounges and clubs can be enjoyed all night long.

Two of the most popular beaches on the island, deservedly earning a ‘blue flag’ status are the cosmopolitans beaches of Kamari and Perissa, which lay on the south eastern side of the island. Their black sand stretch for miles, lined with a selection of restaurants, tavernas and bars, also offering an array of water sports. Secluded beaches off the beaten track can be found for those seeking peace and quiet, the choice is yours. A popular sight to be seen and explore is the Red beach of Santorini, it attracts many visitors as the red and black volcanic rocks contrasts with the sand…..this is one of the most famous and beautiful beaches on the island and is located near the village and ancient site of Akrotiri.
Hints of history in Santorini
Basked in history, Santorini has a number of archaeological sites. In the 13th century, the Venetian’s occupied the island, who built 5 castles, of which the ruins can still be seen and explored today. Between 2000 and 1600 BC the Minoans came from Crete and the remains of the settlement can be found at the village of Akrotiri, one of the most important and interesting archaeological sites on the island.
Local Cuisine in Santorini
Like most places in Greece, eating is a way of life and Santorini is no exception offering a wonderful array of local tavernas where you can enjoy fresh fish, grilled meat or a traditional Greek meze including mouth-watering dishes such as Tzatziki and Stuffed vine leaves. The islands specialities are mostly based on the island’s own agricultural products, including the Fava (a puree of yellow peas), Chloro Cheese and the national dish of white eggplant.
