The fishing village of Aghios Nikolaos, is close to the wonderful Pantazi beach, which benefits from the natural shade of the tamarisk trees and the dramatic backdrop of the mountains beyond. Back in the village, there are plenty of places to enjoy a drink or bite to eat – you can even buy your supper from the local fishermen selling the day’s catch in the harbour.

The Venetian castle is the focal point of the charming village of Methoni. Situated on the west coast of the Messinia, Methoni is one of the richest fishing villages and also boasts some great beaches. There are plenty of places to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat in local family run taverns, within the main square of the village. The popular town of Pylos is only a 20 minute drive anyway, whilst Koroni castle is further afield but both are worth a visit.

Added to that, the stunning sunsets you enjoy whilst having dinner at the harbour-side tavernas have to be seen to be believed, and a trip up the ‘kastro’ (castle) that dominates the skyline gives you the chance to enjoy those amazing sea-views from high above the village.
